Abstract : Erysiphe necator, the causal agent of grape powdery mildew, is one of the most common diseases on grapevines. The control of this disease is mainly done by the application of fungicides presenting different modes of action. This study focuses on the mode of action of DMIs. The target site mutation Y136F, on CYP51 gene, plays an important role in the sensitivity reduction of E. necator towards DMIs. Revysol® (mefentrifluconazole) is the new BASF triazole, and it was tested on adapted strains and compared it to a standard DMI. Laboratory studies show that EC50 of Revysol® for wildtype and for adapted strains (Y136F) are similar. Mefentrifluconazole controls all strains tested with a higher intrinsic activity than the standard DMI. Field trials have also shown superior performance of Revysol® against DMIs shifted population. In consequence, mefentrifluconazole is not impacted by the Y136F mutation. Considered the context of reduction of the available active ingredients combined with an increased risk of resistance development, Revysol® is a new solution for French grape growers that provides high level disease management, even in vineyards with a history of DMIs shifting.
