Résumé : Les adventices vivaces sont de plus en plus problématiques dans les systèmes de culture en réponse à la réduction d’utilisation d’herbicide et de travail du sol. Le travail du sol est souvent identifié comme un levier important de gestion des vivaces. Cependant, le choix de l’outil impacte la capacité de régénération de nouvelles plantes. Dans cet article, nous présentons une méthode expérimentale qui permet de quantifier l’effet des outils de travail du sol sur la taille des fragments de racine de chardon (Cirsium arvense) en lien avec leur action mécanique. Les cinq outils comparés (charrue à socs, herse rotative et trois types de déchaumeurs : disques, dents et pattes d’oie) sont décrits ainsi qu’une méthode de mesure des fragments en lien avec la morphologie particulière des organes multiplicateurs du chardon.

Abstract : Perennial weeds are becoming increasingly problematic in cropping systems in response to reduced herbicide and tillage use. Tillage is often identified as an important lever for perennial-weed control. However, the choice of the tillage tool has an impact on the ability of storage organs to regenerate new plants. In this article, we present an experimental method for quantifying the effect of tillage tools on the size of thistle root fragments, in relation to their mechanical action. The five tools compared (share plough, rotary harrow and three types of stubble cultivator: discs, tines and crow's feet) are described, along with a method for measuring fragments in relation to the particular morphology of thistle storage organs.
